Licensing In Progress

Before I turned 18, my dream was to get a bike license. Somehow, people convinced me not to get one because they felt that riding a bike is dangerous.

So when I finally turned 18, I decided that I would get a car license instead. I waited patiently for that day of my 18th birthday to come. Anyway, that was two years ago.

I’m turning 20 this year and the best part is that I haven’t even started learning.

No choice, but to give myself the face again. The reason why I didn’t start was because SMRT said we need to go green by using public transport. So I obeyed them and sticked with going green by taking public transport.

I was just kidding. The only reason why I didn’t start learning was because I had no money to take the lessons – which can cost up to a few months salary of my part-time job.

It was then, the thought of riding a bike came back into my mind again. Firstly, learning to ride a bike is much cheaper than learning to drive a car. I’ve friends with bikes and I can also learn from them too.

Secondly, owning a bike is much cheaper than owning a car. What’s the point of spending lots of money on driving lessons at this point of time and after that, I’ve no car to drive?

I told my father about my plans – which he rejected immediately. He didn’t tell me the reason why but I’m sure everybody knows. If you ride a bike, you’ll never know when it might be your last time riding it.

The chances of accidents when riding a bike is extremely high. Deep down, I don’t really care but I have to learn to speak responsibly so I kept quiet.

In my mind, I was thinking about lots of stuffs. He doesn’t even have the money now to let me take theory lessons, what makes him think that he will have the money for me to take practical lessons?

Even if he manage to cough out enough money till I get my license, what do I do with it? We don’t even have a car! It’s the same as spending money on expensive fishes right now when we don’t even have a fish tank.

My main point is, why worry about lesson fees right now when you can’t afford it when I can do nothing even after I get my car license?

I’m in a dilemma right now. Personally, I feel that a bike license would be a more practical choice right now because of the cheap lesson fees and I can have a practical goal of owning a bike after I get my license.

However, my father wants me to take the more expensive car license which I can only put inside my drawer after I get it because I don’t see myself owning a car within the next many years.

I’m confused over which to choose. And I’ve already agreed to go to the school with a friend tomorrow evening – I’ve to make a decision by then.

Should I ignore my father and take bike lessons even though he doesn’t allow? I don’t know!
