I Got Scammed

Three months back, I talked about how I have to choose between learning to drive a car or ride a motorbike. I wanted to take up motorbike lessons but my father wants me to to pick up driving instead.

This is the second part of the story.

Before making my decision, my father assured me that he would pay for my lessons and stuffs and also told me the dangers of riding a motorbike (by the way, he owns a motorbike too). Even though I wanted to pick up riding because I believe it’s more practical for my situation.

It’s so much cheaper to learn, own and maintain a motorbike. My family doesn’t own a car so I felt it’s pointless to pick up driving. I shall strongly stress again on my point. Why buy fishes when you don’t even own a tank?

But anyway, I signed up for driving lessons and that’s when all the bullshit come pouring in. My father started telling stories about him paying for his own lessons back in those days and didn’t take a single cent from my grandfather.

So it’s like I got scammed by his assurance to pay for my lessons to pick up driving. Actually deep down, I was already prepared to fork up my own money because I know he doesn’t even have enough to pay his bills. But the kick on my face was when he told me the story about how he paid for himself.

All I can say is he has delivered a very good kick indeed. But too bad this isn’t some reality TV show even though I tried to search if there’s any hidden cameras in my house. This is real life!

And it has been quite some time since I went for my driving lesson because I don’t have enough of Uncle Yusof Ishak.

Man, this uncle of ours is really making everyone go crazy. So now back to the point of me preparing to fork out my own money for lessons. That is what we call, wishful thinking.

How in the world can I expect myself to fork out enough money when I’m currently paying for my phone bill, internet bill, transport, meals, grooming and the list goes on. Oh and don’t forget, I’m only working part-time! One driving lesson is equivalent to a month of my phone bill!

There’s also the option of not taking it now. I want a transport. I’m sick of wasting more than an hour just to get to town. So that’s why I feel a motorbike would be a more practical choice for me.

Don’t talk to me about it being unsafe. I don’t have a golden spoon in my mouth. My situation only allows me to own a motorbike. Before you comment about it being unsafe, take a look at my situation first.

I’m currently schooling and working at the same time. And it’s affecting my studies, my future! But why didn’t anybody tell me that it’s dangerous for you to be schooling and working at the same time? Hey come on, it’s related to my life too!

And then when I intent to take a bike, everybody comes yapping to me about dangerous it is. I know it sounds like there’s no link but I hope you see the meaning behind my point. It’s just a matter of perspective.

I thank you people for the advice but at the end of the day, it’s only an advice. Decision still lies with me isn’t it?

  5. either one…you also dont have the money to buy a car or a bike..dont learn la..perhaps u will get to learn driving in army..

  6. Just do what you wish to do
But what I personally feel that Maybe you would like to take a bike license first, as you yourself know that getting a bike and also the license is so much cheaper one than the car. Atleast when you got a bike, No worries about getting JAM @ HIGHWAY! This is one thing i love having bike. I know owning a bike is a risk and which will cause yr parents to worry. But You are big enough to make your own decision. and it is always convenient to have your own transport don’t you think so.

Do your father show you his understanding, yes. It neutral that parents worry for child, but now you are big enough. plus you are using your OWN money to get the license. and secondly, Why is it that he can own a bike while you cant.
I just got that same problem of yours, But I never care so much, not that I don’t respect my father, I do love him.
Hmmm, whatever it is. If you really were to choose Bike, be responsible of your own actions okk. Like don’t speed and stuff like that haha.

    Good Luck
    (decision still lies upon yourself)

  7. I’m not having this mindset of, I want to ride a bike because it’s cooler. My thinking now is that it’s more practical and affordable.

    We’ll see how it goes.

  8. As i said, follow your heart, you live on this earth once, do it for yourself not others.
