So everything was the same thing for yesterday’s book out only except that, there wasn’t any taxis around. Oh, another thing happened and therefore this incident is up here for all of you to read on my blog.

We were waiting quite impatiently at the taxi stand when this man in his sixties came and stood in front of us, obviously trying to cut our queue. He was glaring at his mobile phone and pretending not to see us.

We voiced out among ourselves loudly, saying that the taxis are taking a long time to come. Apparently, he seems to be deaf and didn’t hear us indirectly telling him not to cut the queue.

After a minute or two, he moved out of the taxi stand and stood beside it. This way, he can board any taxi before they can reach the taxi stand.

This is the most shameless form of queue cutting I’ve ever seen. Not only he’s pretending to be deaf, he’s actually pretending to be dumb as well. Note that he was looking at this mobile phone, using it as a tool to cut our queue.

We were pretty irritated by him, getting ready to do whatever we want to do if he were to board any cab before us. So what if he’s old, so what if we were in our army uniform?

And then it happened.

A luxurious Mercedes-Benz stopped beside him. A well-built Caucasian man stepped out and proceeded to open the back door for him before closing it for the old man again.

We watched in silence as they drove away.

That also means it’ll be 109 more days to the screening of Toy Story 3 in theaters on 17 June. Other than that, there are a few stuffs which I want too.

• A sling bag.

Been wanting to get myself a small sling bag for a long long time now but I just can’t seem to find one that I like. Actually, I did saw one but the price is way beyond my budget of $100. Still looking for an alternative.

• iPod Touch.

Yes, I’m a geek and I love technology. Definitely need something to keep me entertained while I’m on the go and the iPod Touch suits everything perfectly. Music, video, games and even surfing the net. What else do you need? Thing is, it costs $308.

• A motherboard.

This is the motherboard which I’m using to power my computer but unfortunately, it passed away 2 months ago.

Technically speaking, this is also the most expensive part of a computer (in my point of view), so I’m not intending to replace it too soon.

Just a simple but unaffordable wishlist of mine, when can I complete it?

I was whining to myself about how short the Chinese New Year holiday is last night. Mainly it’s because I have to book in back to camp tonight and I wasn’t really contended with the short break that was given to me.

Then something struck me with some food for thought.

So it’s the second day of the Lunar New Year and everybody else were in their new clothes going around visiting relatives and friends. I was waiting for a friend at the bus stop when I saw an old lady rummaging through the rubbish bin looking for metal cans to sell.

She had a plastic bag full of drink cans (it’s a good day for her I guess) in one hand while towing a box of cardboards in the other. On this second night of the Lunar New Year, I watched her slowly walk away to her next destination.

On any other day, it would be just a normal insignificant sight to me but it struck me quite a bit yesterday. Even though it’s a public holiday, life still has to go on for her – because she still has to survive. People still need to eat and pay the bills.

Even though military life is tough, I know I will still get my monthly allowance without fail. I know that my meals are waiting for me everytime I finish training. I know that keeping fit is beneficial to my body. I know that I will get my break during weekends (unless I do something wrong) and public holidays.

But the tables are turned when it comes to the old lady. There’s no definite monthly allowance, she might not have meat in her next meal and there won’t be any holidays for her.

At home, I’ve been paying for my own bills for the past few years while the rest of my mates wouldn’t have to worry about them at all. Honestly speaking, I’m proud that I’m able to this. At least I won’t feel that I’m a good-for-nothing at home.

But the old lady also taught me something. What’s there to be proud of when you’re only paying for your own mobile and internet bills? These items are a luxury and I shouldn’t claim honor just because I’m paying it myself.

Thank you Old Lady, even though I didn’t even speak or look you in the eye, you’ve taught me some useful life lessons last night.

So the date today is 14th February 2010. Chinese New Year & Valentine’s Day falling together on the same day. Is it good or is it bad?

Though this post is slightly late, let me share with you how I feel about this unnatural phenomenon and why I think it’s better to celebrate Chinese New Year than Valentine’s Day.

Why Chinese New Year rocks for me.

• Cash.

Give two oranges to somebody, say something nice and you get a red packet worth so much more than what you paid for that two damned oranges.

• Free food.

While you’ve already leeched off some money from that somebody, take this time to enjoy the wide variety of snacks at his/her house – for free.

• A chance for more cash.

Gambling is one of the activities that you would not miss during this festive season. If you’re lucky, you might even get more money from the host.

Why Valentine’s Day sucks for me.

• I don’t have a girlfriend.

But that’s okay because I don’t really bother about Valentine’s Day. Doesn’t affect me at all.

• Waste of money.

All the money that you’ve received or won today will be spent on unnecessary gifts, meals and movies. Valentine’s Day doesn’t mean you have to observe it and do what everyone else does like going out on a date. I think the upcoming Earth Hour would be more meaningful.

• I got rejected.

I asked my mother out for a movie date with me today but she rejected me by saying that she’s tired. What kind of a mother rejects her son to go out on a Valentine’s Day date.

• My girlfriends are all overseas.

To be honest, I lied. I have many girlfriends from all over the world. England, Spain, Cambodia, Israel, Mongolia, Pakistan and many more. Maintaining a long distance is tiring enough, let alone handling 2809 girlfriends in all 7 continents across the globe.

So to save my scrawny butt out of this messy situation, I gave that one but perfect excuse explaining why I cannot celebrate Valentine’s Day with them this year.

I told them I have to celebrate Chinese New Year. Chinese New Year rocks.

Organised a trip to the Singapore Zoo with a few of my friends (Desmond, Caleb, Leo, Faith & Sheena) last Saturday because I wanted to see some penguins.

Seriously, I went to the Zoo with the only intention of seeing penguins. I’ve no interest in other animals and I’m not really an animal lover.

Anyway, it has been some time since I last wrote a decent post, so here goes!

First animal I met was the White-faced Saki Monkey which has a face that looks like my backside.

I took  quite a handful of photos on that day but I won’t be posting them up here since I believe most of my readers are not animal lovers too. Even if you are, I don’t think you would be interested in pictures of tigers, zebras and stuffs.

However, I get fascinated with very ugly animals like the one above. I’ve no idea what this is but it’s one of the ugliest animal I’ve ever seen. It’s like a failed version of an ostrich and it has armpit hairs growing above it’s head.

There’s also the baboons and their ugly red bottoms. Even though they were pretty ugly (look at their face), we spent quite sometime observing them in their enclosure. We also learnt that the brighter and bigger their red bottoms are, the more charming they will be in the eyes of the other baboons.

Spotted this happy family sitting together and was touched by their family love -- the parents sitting together with their son. I got pretty disgusted later when I noticed all three of them are males. Freaking gay family.

Moving on, I saw two wild ugly humans sitting at the back of a truck and managed to take a snapshot with them since they were pretty tamed.

Some white Guinea pigs. But this will be nothing compared to the next photo.

Have you ever seen a green guinea pig before? It has got to be the biggest guinea pig I’ve ever seen in my entire life. Sorry, I know this is bad but I’m getting really bored while trying to finish this post so I’ve got to entertain myself.

Feeding the goats. Even though I’m not really an animal lover, I had a pretty fun time feeding them.

Okay, I also had a pretty fun time caressing them too. Okay, now the moment I’ve been waiting for.

Penguins! These are African Penguins and they have another name called the Jackass Penguins because of the sounds they make -- which resembles donkeys. Too bad the Zoo doesn’t have the Emperor Penguins.

I’ve a few unfinished posts here at the back which I want to put up but decided against it at the last minute because I got bored of finishing it.

Reason why my blog is so dead nowadays because there aren’t pretty much things to write about when you’re stuck in the military camp for the whole week.

Since I already have a “People I Admire” post, I guess it’s time to do the “People I Hate” post.

• People who have no sense of time.

The number one thing I hate most is waiting for people who arrives late. I can write a whole long post about this but I think I shall end it here.

• People who backs out at the last minute.

If you agreed to attend a event, don’t back out with some lame excuse – or even worse, go uncontactable. In my clique, we like to call this “put bomb”. In laymen terms, it’s “flying aeroplane”. I can also write a whole long post about this but I think I shall end it here.

• People who plays with my food.

This is something different and I don’t think many people knows about me. I’m very particular with my food and I don’t like people touching it. I can play with it, but not you.

Since I can’t really blog much about what we do in camp, I shall try my best to update my blog whenever I book out with some other content.

Unfortunately, I have nothing to blog about this week. No, I’m not putting up any resolutions or something for the new year too.

Like what I always do when I have nothing to write about, I’m just going to put up a YouTube video and call this a post.

This post will be talking about my first two weeks experience in the military. I didn’t want to do this at first because I’ve to be really careful when I want to write about military stuffs.

But screw it, I’m writing this so that in the future, I can look back and reminisce about this very special two years every guy has to go through in Singapore.

On the day I enlisted into the military, I was in for a big shock. I couldn’t stand people shouting at me and I have to do what they tell me to. Unlike the outside world, I feel like I have no rights in there.

Everything you want to do, you have to ask for permission – that also includes scratching your butt if it feels itchy. Time was given for everything so you have to do everything really fast. By everything, I mean everything – even peeing.

First few days was hell for me in there. I almost went crazy. When I’m outside, people often see me as the crazy guy who likes to do things differently from people. So imagine, a guy who is already crazy going in and becomes crazy again. That’s hell.

We were given only about 7 hours of sleep if we’re lucky and we have to wake up at 5.30am every morning. Since I’m now in the Physical Training Phase (PTP), we have to do physical training the whole day for everyday. Your muscles hurts so much you can’t even move.

The two weeks confinement was really moving very slowly. Time was torturing us by moving so slowly and sometimes, it don’t even want to move at all. Food was great though, it was very much nicer than I expected.

One good thing which I like was you’ll never go hungry in there. After all the tough trainings (when I say tough, it’s tough), we were fed really well. We also had lots of water parades whereby you’ll have to drink 500ml of water each time. We drank so much that we can pee at least 5 times in two hours.

So one morning, I woke up and told myself. If I’m going to whine about it everyday, it’s going to be really bad for me. I will take things in a positive manner in whatever I do. I want to smile after every physical training activity because I know I have done my best.

Things got smoother from then onwards. Instead of looking forward to going home, I look forward to the next activity where I can give my best. Before I know it, it’s time to go home. But by then, I don’t even feel like going home already because I’m enjoying myself so much.

Lessons I learnt from here. It’s all about your mental capability. You decide how you want to feel. If you keep whining, you’re just going to whine your entire life away until you look at things the other way. Life rewards those who see things differently.

During the first 2.4km IPPT Run, I finished in 33rd out of 35 people. During one of the long distance run trainings, I told my mind that this is easy and I don’t feel tired at all. I pushed my body to the max and finished 5th. And I smiled after that because I know I’ve done my best. I enjoyed it.

The military is a fun place to learn and experience new things. It’s just how you look at it. I’m sure I can apply this theory in other aspects of life too. 6 more weeks of PTP to go before Basic Military Training (BMT) starts.

I will be enlisting into the Singapore Navy tomorrow morning. Won’t be home for the next two weeks though. Still can’t believe a person who has a phobia of the sea like me will be going into the Navy.

But I will try my best to conquer this dumb fear. I will try my best to do what they ask me to do. At least, I’m going to make myself enjoy the sea for the next two years. No point whining over it.
