I went for a run today and I almost died.

It has been more than 5 months since I last ran. By running, I meant a proper run - not chasing after buses or into the closing doors of the train. I decided to run at least of distance of 2.4km today.

On my route, I ran past people who were walking home, fellow joggers and pet owners walking their dog. The one thing I get really irritated about is the oncoming families or couples who acts like they own the freaking sidewalk.

Since they are in a pair or more, they pretty much take up the space of the entire pathway and they refused to give way even though I was running towards them.

Being me, I would just cut right through them and the fire in me helps to fuel my run.

When the GPS on my mobile phone signalled that I was done with 2.4km, I slowed down and continued by brisk walking. I was all out of breath, feeling like I was about to collapse any moment, this guy walked up to me and asked for directions.

It is either I have a really approachable and friendly face or I look like an information counter, I do not know. But I was trying to answer him - in between breaths - he realised his mistake, apologised and walked away.

I’m glad to be still alive.

Xiangshan Hiking Trail (象山登山步道) was one of my most memorable place I visited during my recent trip to Taipei and I strongly recommend for everyone to visit.

I did not have the exact location during my trip there but we managed to get to the start of the trail after asking the locals and following the signboards in the area. Exact location can be found here on Google Maps.

The trail up to the mountain was just a very long series of steep stairs and it will definitely put your physical condition to a test, but I’m sure everyone should be able to complete it.

Along the trail, we saw elderly locals embarking on the trail with ease. With that condition, I’m sure they must be doing this on a regular basis. I would probably do it too if I were them.

Halfway up the trail, you will be rewarded with some really nice view to keep you motivated and be ready for what is in store at the top.

We started the trail in the evening and we probably took about 20 minutes to reach the top. By then, the sun was slowly setting and we had both day and night views of the breathtaking scenery.

If you’re visiting Taipei, you might not want to miss this. This is probably the best place which has the best view of the Taipei 101 scene for free.
